Madrid, 26 May 2022. – Javier Fernández-Lasquetty, a partner at ELZABURU, together with the manager of the firm’s Valencia office, Manolo Mínguez, and the associate lawyer based at the Valencia office, Paloma Querol, participated in an event organized by the Valencia Chamber of Commerce, with Chamber of Commerce President José Vicente Morata also present. The event analyzed the potential legal implications of the metaverse and NFTs for businesses and consumers.

One of the conclusions was that Europe could play an important role with regard to the legal aspect of the metaverse. “Any data economy created within the European framework and for Europeans must respect the principles of consumer protection, data protection and competition law”, commented Fernández-Lasquetty at the event held today at the Valencia Chamber of Commerce analyzing issues concerning business in the metaverse and NFTs.

Fernández-Lasquetty recalled the definition of metaverse: persistent virtual environments in real time, which are interconnected, and which simulate a reality and contain experiences. The event highlighted the potential issues concerning business in this environment, from issues regarding the handling of data to ethical dilemmas regarding the information that new technologies offer on consumers.
